For more than 20 years, David Freeman has been a minister in the Church of God. Throughout his career, he has been asked the same questions. How can people go to church for years and not change? How could a nation that claims to be Christian not act like it? The answer he found out was indeed troubling; it was much too easy for people in church to substitute a personal relationship with God for church and religion. The deception was that people assumed by faithfully going to church that it automatically drew them closer to God. He realized there was a need to go back to the basics; a personal intimate relationship had to first be developed in the absence of church and religion. Even though he is an ordained minister, what makes his service unique is that he is not supported financially by any church. David Freeman is part owner of a business called U. S. Stone Corp. He works full time so he is not dependant on the church to make a living. This actually frees him to speak openly about church issues and allows him to see things from a totally different perspective. Most preachers are hamstrung by their denominations, traditions, doctrines, and creeds and can only see things inside the box of their religious institutions.
Addressing the Problem
After serving the church, David began realizing there are two deterrents for beginning a relationship with God. Those deterrents are church and religion. The explanation is simple. When with groups of people, “Group Think” overtakes participants, and people follow the church’s leadership instead of the spirit of God.
Rallying Point There are masses of people who truly desire a relationship with God, but will never do so due to church and religion. This is a monumental problem! The good news is that it is not too late to change the heart of America, one person at a time. These efforts start with you, and today.
